4. No work on weekends
Some say that lawyers never work overtime because they never leave the office. In fact, this reflects the struggles of junior lawyers. Senior lawyers have already endured the tough times, and they certainly do not need to work overtime desperately. They ensure their value by extending their working hours and increasing their work intensity.
Senior lawyers can work two to three days a week at most, and they can participate in leisure activities when they have time, enjoying themselves. Working overtime on weekends is something for their assistants or partners to do; senior lawyers should spend weekends with family and friends.
Even if distant clients come over, assistants or partners can handle them on weekends, and senior lawyers can listen to reports during working hours. Some say senior lawyers need to accompany clients for golf on weekends; however, if they need to spend weekends with clients, whether playing golf or dining, it indicates that these lawyers cannot arrange their leisure time and are not yet senior enough. Of course, if clients accompany lawyers for golf or meals, that is a different matter.
5. Have personal hobbies
Senior lawyers should not only have personal time but also personal hobbies. These hobbies should be things they genuinely enjoy, not something they feel compelled to like to please others. For example, many boys in college like to play the guitar, not because they love the guitar, but because a certain girl likes it; this does not count as a personal hobby.
Lawyers who can enjoy fishing, playing sports, running marathons, or writing in their spare time can be said to be in the ranks of senior lawyers or belong to the leisure class. Many lawyers die from overwork; in fact, these lawyers are still in a desperate state and do not know how to enjoy life. Senior lawyers should not only have money but also leisure, which transcends the awkwardness and helplessness of rookie lawyers.
According to the 80/20 principle, senior lawyers can only be those who earn above the average income in the legal profession, allowing them the leisure to maintain or develop personal hobbies.
6. Have a personal circle
Senior lawyers should have their own personal circle, where they can engage in conversations with learned individuals and avoid interactions with the uninformed. The personal circle of senior lawyers consists of friends who share similar values and perspectives. These friends can have different roles at work, even within the system or confidential units, but in private spaces, they can use their personal identities. In this personal circle, everyone can exchange ideas and share interests.
Senior lawyers need their own private domain, where they can express their true feelings without wearing a mask. Many say that lawyers will transform from passionate youth to cold-blooded middle-aged individuals after a few years. In fact, if they have their own personal circle, they will always remain passionate.
